Describe the lives/roles of women before the 19th Amendment .

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

answer in social, economic, and political

Explanation:

Social: During the early 1800s, the idea of equality became more prominent and social conditions for women began to change, which led to the birth of the Women's Suffrage Movement. Although women were still considered weaker than men, they started to receive more educational opportunities. For instance, by the end of the 19th century the number of women students increased to more than one third than before. Also, the foundation of colleges for women as well as events at women’s rights conventions challenged society’s views on women’s traditional roles. Higher education was broadened by the rise of women's colleges and the admission of women to regular colleges and universities. In the 1800s women were stuck in the Cult of Domesticity.

Economic: As for work, women were discriminated against. Many people believed that a women's place was in the home and that cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the family was their job. In the early 19th century, the jobs most readily available to women were domestic and factory work. For an example, during the first half of the nineteenth century teaching became a respectable job for middle-class women. Also, women started working in factories as seamstresses in places like the Lowell Mills.

Political: Women began to start taking part in reform movements in the 1800's, which gave them little involvement in politics. As a result, women began to wonder why they were not also allowed to vote. The first major public appeal for women's suffrage came in 1848 when Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton called for a women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York. At the convention they created the Declaration of Sentiments. The Declaration of Sentiments demanded for women to have equal rights to men in education, property, voting, and other issues.

Answers

Answer:

Increasingly, U.S. policy sought to limit the number of immigrants who were not white, Anglo-Saxon, and Protestant.

Explanation:

In the 19th and 20th century American policies were concern about immigration. America became one of the places where people immigrated to escape from poverty, persecution, political pressure, etc. With the increasing population in the 19th and 20th century, the U.S. implemented policies that limited the number of immigrants who were not white like Asians.

The immigration act of 1924 restricted the number of immigrants coming into the United States. This act establishes a national origin quota system that eliminated Asians from entering America.

Which of these measures did President Kennedy succeed in passing?A. Tax cuts
B. Aid for education
C. Universal health care
D.A higher minimum wage

Answers

Answer: He succeeded in passing a higher minimum wage so the answer is D

Explanation:

President John F. Kennedy successfully passed a higher minimum wage during his presidency. In 1961, Kennedy signed into law the Fair Labor Standards Act. Hence option D is correct .

Which of these measures did President Kennedy succeed in passing?

Which increased the federal minimum wage from $1 to $1.25 an hour, and from $1.25 to $1.60 an hour in 1963. The legislation also extended minimum wage protection to more workers, including retail and service employees, and raised the minimum wage for tipped workers.

The higher minimum wage was part of Kennedy's efforts to address poverty and stimulate economic growth. He argued that a higher minimum wage would increase consumer spending and reduce poverty, and he also believed that it was a matter of basic fairness to ensure that workers received a living wage.

While Kennedy faced opposition from some business interests and conservative lawmakers who argued that a higher minimum wage would hurt the economy and lead to job losses, he was ultimately able to achieve his goal. The higher minimum wage helped to lift many low-wage workers out of poverty and played a role in reducing income inequality in the United States.

If Lincoln emancipated all the slaves what would happen?

Answers

Answer:

President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, in the midst of the Civil War against the southern states, united in the Confederacy. In it, African American slaves who were in the south of the nation, that is, in the Confederation, were freed. Through this strategy, Lincoln sought to foment slave rebellions, as well as win the favor of African Americans and, ultimately, deprive Southerners of the enormous labor that they provided.

However, President Lincoln did not do the same with the slaves in the north, mainly due to two factors: on the one hand, there were far fewer slaves and slavery was abolished in a large number of northern states, and on the other, to maintain this manpower until the end of the war.

Use this excerpt from an article about the effects of the Korean War to answer the question.

It was the Korean War that erroneously persuaded US leaders that only the direct application of military power could contain what they now perceived as a dire Soviet threat menacing the entire world. The main legacy of Korea was that the United States thereafter pursued a foreign policy of global intervention emphasizing a reliance on military means to maintain the status quo. Had it not been for the flawed assumptions that US leaders derived from the Korean War, the Cold War arguably would have ended much earlier and at far less cost in both human lives and material resources.

What is the long-term effect of the Korean War on the U.S. as mentioned in the article?

The United States believed only military intervention could stop communism.
The United States ignored the dangers of Nationalist dictatorships
The United States was motivated to build up its nuclear program.
The United States began to intervene for humanitarian reasons.

Describe in detail 3 main reasons why the Great Depression came to being?

Answers

Answer:

Deflation

The Great Depression, which generally is considered to have begun with the stock market crash in October 1929, changed the way America worked 12. At the end of the Roaring Twenties when the stock market and the economy soared, the crash appeared inevitable in retrospect. More goods were being produced than were needed, and without people to buy them, jobs disappeared. The event was a part of a spiral that ended with production of materials for World War II. Deflation, the opposite of inflation, occurs when the basic value of money goes up. When too many goods are available, the price goes down, so money essentially is worth more. For example, during the 1920s, there was a dramatic expansion of office space in cities, particularly New York City. This meant that office space could be found all around the city, so prices went down--but no one was occupying the space. A prime example is the Empire State Building, begun in 1930 and opened in 1931. Its 102 stories went largely unoccupied throughout the Depression, and the building did not become profitable until 1950 12.

Demand

During the 1920s, the United States was furiously producing products from automobiles to radios that were being purchased largely on credit. By 1929, the markets were saturated with such products and demand began to fall. Because of the runs on banks and the frantic sell-off of stocks, credit became hard to get even for those wanting a new car. Once there was a major backlog of products no one was buying, there was little money coming into the companies that made the products. This resulted in massive layoffs of workers throughout the country. Without income--and there was no unemployment insurance before Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930s--people began to lose their homes and had little money to buy anything other than food. Demand for products and services dried up, which led to even more unemployment.

Unemployment

Because no one had any money to buy products, the people who built the products were out of work. They also had little money to buy anything, and the spiral continued. Social programs were not government-run at the time, so there were few places to turn to for help other than religious and other charities. They, too, were strained by the sheer numbers of people turning up for bread and soup. The companies had no money coming in, so many of them folded. Those that remained had few workers. By 1933, nearly 25 percent of the workforce was unemployed.
