With Mountain biking you can get bikes for really cheap or expensive so if you are just a beginner you can get a cheap bike and see if you like it and if you really like it upgrade to a slightly better bike, then if you stick with it you might choose to get a more expensive bike so that you can do big stuff with the right type of bike you need. But even if you get an expensive bike it's still not as expensive as a good motorbike.
